Northport is the ocean port for the city of Whangarei and is located 8 nautical miles from Whangarei and serves the hinterland for most of the Northland province.

Marsden Point is a deep water port in a natural harbour operated by Northport. The port offers excellent facilities including palletised and breakbulk handling berths which cater for, amongst others, bulk coal, logs, hoppers for dry imports, and deep sea trawlers. Containers are handled using ships cranes.
